Scenario: Using Hex-Grids

Posted by Captain Salem Vendari on June 28, 2013 at 1:35 PM Comments comments (0)

There is talk all over the web about playing Pirates of the Cursed Seas using a hex-grid. I have tried this myself and it seems to work fairly well. Just a couple of guidlines to follow when playing this style on a 1" hex-grid mat:

L = 4 spaces

S = 3 spaces

When given a move action, a ship may not move into a space immediately behind it (unless it has the Junk keyword). Like ...

This isn't so much of a scenario as a map setup. It may be used with any  scenario you play.

Scenario: Fort Raid

This scenario is similar to my Blockade Run scenario, except one player is trying to defend the fort while the other is trying to destroy it. Or it could be a free-for-all where everyone is trying to raid one another's fort.

Report: Battle of Culver's Cove

Tonight I got to visit with some old friends of mine. We had a delicious dinner at the ol' pub Culver's, and then we did battle with some pre-built fleets I had on hand. I took last pick, which is why I was again playing with a Spanish fleet. It was either that or Pirates. I decided I wanted a more battle-oriented fleet.

Santa Catalina - Spain; Points: 9; Cargo: 2; Base Move: S+S; Cannons: 3L

The Spanish have blockaded the English fort Ramsgate. The marines garrisoned inside the fort are in desparate need of supplies. Can their ships make it passed the Spanish blockade and bring them the provisions they need? Or will the Spanish armada prevail? It's up to you.

Cadet-Captain Mike once brought up a concern regarding an inbalance for combat between two "equally powered" fleets. The advantage always seems to go to whoever can get the first shot in. This scenario is an attempt to help even out the inbalance.

Scenario: Wreck of the Black Galleon

Posted by Captain Salem Vendari on May 9, 2013 at 3:25 PM Comments comments (0)

(Official Pirates Scenario)

Each year the famous black fleet sails from Panama, through the Caribbean, and then onto Spain to bring the crown the gold pulled from the mountains of South America. Although the route and timing of the fleet are among the mostly tightly held secrets of the Spanish Empire, this year everyone knows where one of the Spanish galleons is—it has struck a reef off of the island of Cuba and is slowly sinking! Every ship in the area races to be of ...
